I don’t like to update my iPhone until majority of the kinks are resolved as I am always wary about what can happen. Last night I decided that it was time to update my phone. I set it to update from 2am-4am while I am asleep. This morning when I went to access my phone it asked me to put in my passcode to unlock the phone. Then I had to sign into my icloud account. When I went to my Notes app, I saw that my important notes were missing. Of course the first thing I do is to freak out. Then I did what most people would do, I immediately did a search on the web for lost data after updating to iOS 10/iOS 10.1. The first article I found was very helpful. It talked about the 3 steps to recover lost data. I will copy and post that article below.
I started to follow the steps and found out that I have never backed up my phone on icloud nor my computer. Devastated, I decided to poke around settings in hopes that I had missed something. To my surprise, the update had turned off all my icloud settings. After I turned everything back on, the phone started to sync with icloud and downloaded all my information. That was such a relief! Knowing how important it is to backup my phone, I am now currently backing up my phone on iTunes to my computer because I don’t have enough space on my icloud to back up all my data.
For those of you who either wants to update your phone or have updated your phone but encountered the same problem, I suggest to check your icloud settings first before proceeding to recovering lost data. For those of you that must do a full recovery, here’s a post written by Joy Wang How to Recover Lost Data on iPhone iPad After iOS 10/iOS 10.1 Update from iMobie published on October 27, 2016.
